by KeaneWe often become creatures of habit, living each day like clockwork until a year has gone by and we’re not exactly sure what we’ve done besides make money (this excludes me, sadly). However, if we make each day the adventure that it should be, we ultimately feel more fulfilled with the time we’ve spent.
Here are five ways to shake up your life. They are by no means “secrets,” and you’re probably well aware of their effects, but it’s still nice to be reminded every now and again that we should step back, step out and step away.
If you have any personal tips, please feel free to leave them in the comments.
Visit the Zoo (or Dog Park)
During the hectic work week, we often forget that the world is made up of more than just people. This is especially true for those of us living in the city. A visit to the zoo (or a dog park if you are opposed to your local zoo), provides the reminder that there is more to life than what humans do.

Catch the Sunrise
Yes, life exists before 9 a.m. and it’s free for the public. Pick a morning to wake up early and walk to a good vantage point for some peaceful sunrise action.

Cook With More Spices
Literally spice up your life with the addition of exotic spices in your meals. Experiment with hot sauce if you normally don’t, purchase herbs from countries you’re not familiar with, or simply go out and eat at a restaurant of a particular cuisine of which you’re not accustomed. Dining is traveling with your mouth on the cheap.
Walk Along a Different Street
Albert Einstein said it best:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Why should one expect life to bring about change if we do the same things every day? Start mixing it up by walking down a different street to and from work. If you normally take the bus, try taking a different line or walking home. Shake up your routine in as many ways as possible, even if they are just changes in small doses.
Travel
Perhaps the most obvious and potentially the hardest goal to obtain is traveling. We all want to do it, but we can’t seem to find the time or money. Traveling, however, is as much meditation as it is adventure. When we leave our familiar surroundings, we step out of ourselves and come back changed.
